| On May 26, 2008, the Archibald Willard Color Guard present arms for the “Pledge of Allegiance” at the Lake View Cemetery Memorial Day Program. |

| On June 13, the Color Guard joined with the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion in the presentation of the colors for the singing of the National Anthem (Jim Pierce – center – white shirt). Our members are Bill Maling (drum), Robert Hackenberg (SAR flag), Lee MacBride (Betsy Ross flag), and John Franklin (sword). Over 40 people were sworn in at the Naturalization Ceremony which was conducted by Judge Dan Aaron Polster, United States District Court. The U.S. Army celebrated their 233rd Birthday where they received numerous proclamations. The event was sponsored by the Joint Veterans Commission of Cuyahoga County and hosted by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. |

| Over 200 members and guests enjoyed the WRS George Washington Birthday Celebration held at Shaker Heights Country Club. The guest speaker was James Rees, director of Mount Vernon, George Washington’s home. The Color Guard members shown here are Hugh Harris, Stan Thomas, Lee MacBride, Ron Morgan, John Franklin, Brad Reasoner, Robert Hackenberg, Bill Maling, Robert Farling, and Robert Bartholomew. |

| On August 4, 2008, the Nolan Carson Memorial Color Guard (Cincinnati Chapter SAR) were in action on Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati. The event was presented by the Purple Heart Society honor the memory of local veteran SGT William Brown who received one of the first Military Merit Badges from George Washington. This year, 2008 marks the 225th anniversary of the award. The Purple Heart is the oldest military decoration in the world in present use and the first made available to a common soldier. The Purple Heart was created by one of the world’s most famed and best-loved heroes, General George Washington, during the Revolutionary War. |
