Sons of the American Revolution Essay Contest set for local High School StudentsHigh school students in their sophomore, junior or senior year of study during the 2003-2004 school year are invited to enter the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) George S. and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest. This contest is open to students attending public, parochial, private, or accredited home schools. The State Society has a first prize of $300, second $200, and third $100. The contest is for an original essay written in English. It shall have a minimum of 800 and not exceed 1000 words excluding title page and bibliography. The essay shall be typed double spaced using a computer, typewriter, or word processor. The topic for the essay shall deal with an event, person, philosophy, or ideal associated with the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, or the Framing of the United States Constitution. The national contest winning essay will be submitted to the SAR MAGAZINE for publication. First prize is $3,000 with a winning recognition plaque, second is $2,000, third at $1000. The social security or alien ID number will only need to be supplied for the winning essays, not every participant as noted in the RULES & REGULATIONS section.
