PATRIOTS’ DAY RESOLUTION

WHEREAS: April 19th 1775 is the day when the Minutemen of Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts stood against and routed the occupying British regulars; and

WHEREAS: The event became known as the, “Shot heard around the world, ”and the turning point from which began the American War for Independence; and

WHEREAS: This day has been memorialized over the last one hundred years by descendants of the patriots who fought to establish freedom and self-government in America; and

WHEREAS: That war came west of the Allegany Mountains to be fought at Fort Laurens on the Tuscarawas River in the Ohio lands during the winter of 1778; and

WHEREAS: The Ohio country was cleared and settled by tens of thousands of patriots who were granted for their service, lands in the Northwest territory and today over six thousand find their final rest in this land: Now

THERFORE: I Bob Taft, Governor of the State of the State of Ohio, do hearby designate on this 230th anniversary

PATRIOTS’ DAY, April 19, 2005

throughout Ohio and encourage all citizens of the state to discover and appreciate the service and contributions made by their patriot ancestors.
